Feeling Yourself-ie

Welcome to the style section of my blog. What is style? Well, according to my google home it’s a person’s particular way of expressing themselves weather through clothing, writing, architecture…you get the point. For me, style is the way you move, your inner vibe, and the many ways you express your inner essence outwardly. As a Real Estate Broker I love home decor and seeing new organizational systems people create. I have always loved fashion as a form of expression and no matter what size I am at the time I have fun with what I wear. Clothing, décor and appliances, fashion accessories, music, artwork, and cars – it is all style – and we will cover all that and more.

I have always had a ‘different’ sense of style. When everyone was wearing baggy jeans and Ts I was wearing long johns and bra tops to school – my grandma almost had a fit, and eventually there were no more long johns allowed in our home. My grandma may have thought I was coocoo – but I liked the look and I liked how the style made me feel.

When everyone wore two hoop earrings – I wore a stud and a hoop. When people put clamps on their braids – I put them on the top of my ear. When people wore outdoor clothes – I rocked lingerie; and while people buttoned up all their buttons – I rocked one button and said “and what!” Before grills were fashionable, I rocked tinfoil on my teeth – don’t laugh I was poor, but I still had style!

I always did my own thing. Now many of those things that I did solo have become major fashion movements but people who knew me ‘back then’ know who the real trend setter is ;)!

Today, even though I am ‘all grown up’, I still dress according to my mood, vibe, and how I feel.

Fashion has always been an outward expression of my inner vibe – and I love that about me.

I often stand out in a room because I will be that grown person in the sexy barbie low cut sweater wrap and tights, or in a tutu and bodysuit. If I am going professional, I still must add a bit of J tha G swag. I do me and I love it. I get a lot of love for my free style – I also get hate, I could care less about the haters – they need to free up themselves and dress according to their inner joy.

Before I had a son I was a B cup, after, I became a DDD cup. I dress the same regardless. Why? Because my inner expression, my soul is the same regardless of my cup size.

Similarly, over the years my weight has fluctuated – often being plus sized. I struggled at first because I was raised in an all-white family with what was clearly a Black girl’s body – curves everywhere. No one around me helped me understand my hair, my thick thighs, my big butt – that all came with time. My best friend Stacey is tall too, but she was always very slim, so I remember she would go downstairs wearing a dress we bought together, my grandma would see it and say how lovely she looked; then I would come down the stairs in the same dress and my grandma would flip – “that’s too short Jessie you look like a bloody Trollip!” She was not having it, but the only difference between Stacey and I was that my but lifted the skirt about two inches higher. I learned to love and accept my curves, embrace them, and have fun with them. I still have fun with my curves today – even if it makes me look like a ‘bloody Trollip’ lol (RIP Grandma I love you).

I have a style for every mood, and I do not conform to norms – I do what feels authentic to me.

I often have other curvy Goddesses asking me where I get the confidence to wear what I want; and before curves were fashionable, I rocked mine with pride.

Truthfully, I never knew how to answer those women. I do not see myself as ‘plus size’ or not plus size – I do not see myself as a ‘size’ at all. I see myself as a spirt, a vibe, as love – and clothing is one way I enjoy self-expression. Now, I realize that the confidence they were asking about was actually intuition, connection to self, and selflove! They were really saying “how do you LOVE yourself like that” and in response I say YevOne (Young Energetic and Vibrant One) – Back Yourself!

YevOne is my reminder to self, and hopefully it will become yours too, to maintain my Young Energetic and Vibrant spirt – to stay in my higher-self’s energy – and to always back myself. YevOne is a very important lifestyle moto that keeps everything I do in my life alighted with my true essence and keeps me on track to achieving my personal ultimate success. I hope it will do the same for you!

I want my Style Plus articles to inspire you, invite you to throw caution to the wind, and have a bit of fun with what you wear, how you decorate, what you rock, and the way you rock it. Swag it up ‘you style’! There are literally no rules.

With COVID-19 many people are working from home – if you are one of them you may have forgotten about fashion all together – but do not allow yourself to sit in sweats everyday – your soul needs to express itself, to have fun, to be creative, and to celebrate your true inner light and outer beauty.

Plan a fun photo day and show me how you beat to your own drum. Follow me on IG @jessicathagoddessxo and tag me when you upload your self-expressive fun filled photos. Use the hashtag #FeelingYourSelfie. I will shout out my favorite ones in my IG stories.

I took my own advice and did a mini shoot of my own. All I had was my cell phone (so I don’t have a lot of range), myself (I am still building and so a team will come I hope lol until then it’s me and my camera phone), my natural beauty (thank you God), and some fun clothing props. I chose the cover shot for this article – but checkout @jessicathagoddessxo to see some more photos from the shoot.

I like to keep a fresh face and I don’t often wear makeup so you will often get the real me – raw and uncut.

For my first Style Plus Selfie Shoot #FeelingYouSelfie – I decided to go with the Looking Like a Million Bucks theme and put on my new money green $$$ bustier from @curvysense, paired with my beautiful white faux fur from @torrid. I was going to call this shoot something else – but someone close to me told me what the term means (I had no idea). I laughed with embarrassment and changed it asap. Follow me and DM me about it and I will share the joke.

I think style is an important and fun way to tap into and connect with your true self. It’s a great way to let your inner light shine.

I know my selfies tend to give off a sexy or cutesy vibe at times. Other days I could look like a ‘rude gal’, professional, sporty, messy hair don’t care comfy, or even child-like. All my vibes are honest personifications of my true inner essence. I am a multi-faceted individual who has learned the art of listening to my inner self.

Style starts within – and that is why we all have Style Plus that little extra swag, personality, flare, and light that turns a product from hot to FIRE!!!

While we all like to dress to impress, what truly matters is that you are Feeling Yourself-ie!
