Baby Steps

It occurred to me, as I simplified my initial plans for YevOne, and my quest to IMPROVE THE ENTIRE WORLD ONE BLOG PODCAST PRODUCT AND COURSE AT A TIME (que Jessica Tha Goddess in her Cape) – that while I dream big, perhaps the key to true success lies in the little steps we take every day towards building our dreams.

I am, by most standards, still pretty young. Yet I am a Real Estate Broker, a Lifestyle & Entertainment Entrepreneur, a Life Coach and Course Developer, a Writer and Published Author, a Motivational Speaker, and a Life Enthusiast – and that’s just TODAY!

I have in the past been a Youth Counselor, Highschool Classroom Teacher, Daycare worker, Community Developer, Rap Manager, Office Assistant, Communications Specialist, Government Employee, Executive Director of a Non Profit Organization, Talent Scout, Acting Agent, Casting Director, Event Planner, Host of DJ and MC Competitions, Radio Host, Traffic Operations Manager, Recreation Supervisor, Corporate Trainer, Business Development Consultant, and Chuck E. Cheese Ball Pit Attendant. My point is not to toot my many horns, but to demonstrate that it is literally possible to do anything you put your mind to.

At a young age I figured out if I put one foot in front of the other I could occupy any space my little mind dreamt of – and do it well too.

As a child I wanted to be a singer, I organized singing contests in my hood. I never won, but I was determined to win. I practiced every day. Every day I would drag some sucker willing to sing against me to the lady’s door who judged these ‘competitions’ where the winner would always get a cookie. Every day I lost. Eventually I could only convince my best friend Soad to go to the lady’s door with me, which made the challenge even harder because Soad had an amazing voice – but I didn’t quit. Eventually I won – and got the cookie. Man what people will do for a cookie lol. I am sure the lady, Juliette was her name, just figured geez these kids will never go away I am just going to let her win…but I didn’t care – I had a goal and I put one foot in front of the other and I achieve it. Later, Biz Markie would serve to be a great inspiration and fuel my aspirations to continue writing lyrics and building my craft. If he could sing – maybe just maybe one day I would be accepting my Billboard award too. Fun fact, Snow comes from the same hood as I do, he used to practice his singing in my basement with his brother, my uncle, and their friends. This year Snow took home a bunch of Billboard Awards – way to go Fam. One foot in front of the other!

I have always had an adventurous spirit when it came to career development. I have never let small things like credentials or qualifications get in the way. If I really wanted it I would learn it, connect the relevant dots I did have in my life to the desired role, project confidence, connect with key decision makers, and seal the deal. I love people, I love new challenges, and I love life – with most jobs if you go in with a winning attitude, you are already half way there. Now of course I would not say the same for Doctors, Lawyers, or Pilots, you must have some level of connection (or create it) to the desired field, but if I did really want to be a Doctor at any age I would hit the books, one foot in front of the other, and make it happen.

What’s your dream? What keeps you up at night – your secret fantasy lottery career? What do you think, man – I would love to do that for the rest of my life? Now what’s stopping you from actually doing it?

If I were to guess – I would say you are spending all your time in Dream Land and not enough time in Baby Step Ville.

What do I mean?

Most of the time we play small. It’s a terrible habit most humans learn along the way. We accept the boxes people put us in, take on our type-casted roles, or worse we let our past limitations define our future endeavors. This stops here.

What if I told you you could literally have ANYTHING you want. That’s right I said ANYTHING!!!

The key to achieving success isn’t hidden in the “Secret” – no offense to the creators of that very magical video, that I must admit I too got lost in for a while. I mean, of course a Dream Board or Vision Board will remind you daily what you are working towards…but then you need to WORK TOWARDS IT!

I believe in the power of God, and I also believe in the Free Will he has given us. God works with our Free Will. So in order to manifest the dreams you desire you need a realistic plan that details clear steps – yes baby steps – that you can take every single day that will get you, over time, to your desired destination.

Being in quarantine with the rest of the world I decided to watch a show I surprisingly had never seen #KeepingUpWithTheKarashians – and what was very clear to me as I watched the lives of Kimberly, Kourtney, Kloe, Kris and the Jenner girls unfold was how nothing happened overnight. Their riches, their super-stardom, their multiple deals with various brands – this empire was built brick by brick way before we were ever invited into their homes and lives. Kris was building with then Bruce, and Kim was building her dreams and her career. Then these two amazing and powerful empathic women decided to join forced to manifest the vision Kim had for her entire team. Side note – Kris’s unwavering support of her children and her ability to put them first and not only allow them to have the spotlight but to hold and aim the spotlight herself is a testament to the true pure love a mother has for her children and the importance of listening to and supporting your children’s dreams even if you do not understand them initially. Good on you Kris Jenner!

There is no dream too big, but staying in Dream Land and not diligently progressing in Baby Step Ville creates a deceiving illusion that dreams are impossible. The beauty of life is that EVERYTHING is possible. Everything! Just because we have not thought of it or discovered it does not mean that it is not possible.

Find your inner joy. Find that dream that you so deeply want. Locate your gifts that you crave to bring to light – and then create a plan packed with baby steps – and just start walking into the light.
